Our Story

How it all started...

The Early Years
The history of our building dates to approximately 1862, when a group of believers sought a dedicated space for worship. Originally organized as the Royalton Baptist Church under the American Baptist Convention, the congregation shared a pastor with a sister church in nearby Lockport, NY.
A Season of Struggle
As the decades passed, the church faced a period of steady decline. Attendance dwindled to a few faithful members who began to seek God’s guidance: should they close the doors forever, or find a way to expand the ministry beyond their small, rural community?
By the fall of 2010, the situation reached a turning point. The current pastor was forced to step down due to health issues, and the church had exhausted its financial resources. The building and parsonage were in desperate need of repair. The remaining members reached out to recently retired Pastor, Ron Houseman, asking him to fill the pulpit temporarily while they navigated the process of closing the church.
A New Vision
Pastor Houseman accepted the call, but as he and a few others began to pray, they felt a different leading. Rather than closing, they saw a vision for restoration. The group began to grow as new people joined the mission. Along with Sunday worship, two small-group Bible studies were launched—one in a private home and another at Kaboodles Kafe’ in Akron. These studies, particularly the one at the café, drew new faces and sparked a season of growth.
Restoration and Rebirth (2010–2011)
Between 2010 and 2011, the church experienced a financial and spiritual renewal. Vital repairs began, starting with a new furnace and air conditioning to ensure a comfortable environment for worship. Other improvements included:
Exterior Maintenance: Windows were painted or covered in aluminum, and loose siding was secured.
Sanctuary Updates: The original 1862 pews were modified for comfort and rearranged to create a center aisle.

Join us every Sunday as we gather to worship together a 9:15 am and 10:30 am.
